New campaign finance reports show incumbent congressman still way ahead in fundraising

Because of state election law, congressional candidates have to file an extra campaign finance report right before the primary and general elections the years they’re on the ballot.
So last week, they did, and …
… Nothing changed when it comes to the fundraising advantage the incumbents had after the third quarter.
The incumbents had a lot more money, raised more of it and kept the challengers way behind.
Did anyone think it would be different?
The reports cover Oct. 1 to 15.
In the 10th Congressional District, Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Marino raised another $47,080, bringing his total of the two-year election cycle to $994,868.01. He had $167,537.23 left.
Democrat Scott Brion raised $10,109 more. His two-year total is $174,681.67 and he was down to $14,629.22.
Independent Nick Troiano added $9,006 more. He has raised $151,434.61 – an impressive amount for an independent – and had $22,245.28 left.
In the 11th Congressional District, we got our first look at Democrat Andy Ostrowski’s fundraising, and it wasn’t pretty. He filed one report covering all his fundraising through Oct. 15.
Between Feb. 4 and Oct. 15, Mr. Ostrowski raised $6,365, spent $7,666.99 and had $209.28. That makes no sense because if you spend more than you raise, you shouldn’t have any cash left, but that’s what he reported.
This shows mainly that Mr. Ostrowski, who did pretty well at their WVIA debate Monday night, didn’t really put up a serious challenge to Republican U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta. Everybody loves to decry the influence of money in politics, but you need to raise some money to win and $6,300 for a congressional race simply isn’t going to cut it.
Mr. Barletta raised another $19,403.46. For the cycle, his total grew to $1,168,206.36. His cash balance was $278,518.60.
In the 17th Congressional District, incumbent Democrat Matt Cartwright actually didn’t raise as much as Republican Schuylkill County Coroner David Moylan, but he didn’t need to really.
Mr. Cartwright raised $$6,805, growing his two-year total to $1,272,667.61 and leaving him with $608,091.68 on hand.
Mr. Moylan raised $13,445, which means he’s raised $74,757.44. He had $2,199.89 left.
